Image Project

The Image Project is an experiment designed to sharpen my image-reading skills. The idea is to spend a fairly brief amount of time, say ten or fifteen minutes, and write a quick response to one image a day. I’m using a pretty loose definition of the word “response” here. It might mean connecting the image to some salient current event, but it could just as easily mean writing some bad poetry.

The idea for this project comes from  a visual rhetoric class I took in grad school, but it shouldn’t be confused with rigorous academic study. This is not deep analysis. It can’t be. I won’t be doing a lit review before each posting. Hopefully, though, I’ll be able to come up with something reasonably intelligent or entertaining to say within the time constraints I’ve set for myself.

About the images: all the images I use will be taken from Flickr. I will only use those published under a Creative Commons “By Attribution” license. Fortunately, that gives me over 12 million images to choose from, so I ought to be able to keep this project going for a while.

Okay, going to go find pretty pictures now. Drop me a line if you have comments, questions or suggestions. My email is ro (dot) porter (at) gmail (dot) com.
