This post is dedicated to all of my friends who have had serious health problems in the last year.

Ever been denied health care because of a pre-existing condition? No? Just wait. Sooner or later we all develop one. It’s called “being alive”. Health insurance companies don’t care. They will gladly reject you on the basis that you are not healthy enough to qualify for health insurance. Sensible, huh?

One group that’s working to change things is Families USA. They have a nice new web site called Stand Up for Health Care
that features lots of good information about the health care crisis and what you can do to help fix it. Please take a minute to check it out.

(The above post does not apply if you live in Europe, Canada or any of the other places in the world where people have guaranteed access to good health care.)

You know what’s fun? Checking the weather radar and seeing this headed right for you:

The lightning is continuous and the thunder sounds like someone is ripping apart concrete. The air is getting cooler, though. All that smothering heat and humidity we had earlier today is getting blown away. The brain is working better, too.

I love summer in the Midwest. Makes you feel like you live somewhere.

It’s four years since we got married. Anne informs me that this makes it our Robot Anniversary.

I couldn’t be more pleased. Now I’m going off to sleep off half a bottle of Tempranillo and some fancy bistro cuisine.

And he is way bigger and scarier. See how he calmly observes the fleeing fighter jets before swallowing them whole with his articulated external esophagus?

Ever since I discovered that many of the panel discussion at the Netroots Nation conference are being streamed live, I’ve been having myself a little political geek fest. Having been to couple of real yawnapaloozas conferences in my life, I can tell you that this way is better. Screw blogging in my underwear. I’m attending a dang national conference in my underwear!

More seriously, the big takeaway from what I’ve heard so far is this: ranting on your blog is great, but the best way to mobilize people is still going out and knocking on doors. And this is from people who make their livings ranting on blogs!
